3 CINEMAS DESIGN STUDY with HOUSING
This is a design study work in progress to consider adding theaters with housing which helps support the cost of the theaters.
The project scope to add 3 theaters to the prior housing project was thought to be impossible by the theater developer’s architect due to the vertical circulation elevator issues.
However my client being the lot owner and future Black Cat store owner liked the idea of adding cinemas. Therefore we found the solution was to have the large theater below grade making the best street access to a cinema lobby with one flight up or down to either the two small above and one large theater below. The request to hide the column supports into walls forced larger spans of the first floor steel frame that holds up the 4 floors of lighter mass timber frame above.
